The BD-12 1172 system (also known as The Spirograph Nebula) is located in the Inner Orion Spur region, 1,178.64 LYs from Sol.
It is the 11th survey candidate system in the original Canonn Challenge route, and was visited on day 7 of the Chronicles Expedition.
Expedition objective: scan and catalogue Lattice Mineral Spheres, Prasinum Bioluminescent Anemone and Viridans Gourd Mollusc

Expedition Journal
The Gourd Mollusc is a non-sapient, spacefaring creature that is aptly named based on it’s similar shape to the fleshy large fruit with a hard skin found in the Sol system. The tentacles at it’s base reportedly feed off starlight and convert it into chemical energy. The mollusc appears to have little to no desire to move unless forced to do so as a result of being struck by another object. The tentacles appear to have a bioluminescent quality to them and were noticed pulsating in bioluminescent intensity at a consistent and predictable interval. The Viride variant of the Gourd Mollusc colouration is hard to discern given the influencing effect of the encompassing nebula. It appears to have a pink / purple exterior with white and lime green highlighted tentacles. During the observation period, no other noticeable traits were identified.
Due to their relative small size, compared to other notable stellar phenomena, these mollusc can be easily missed. A slow ship velocity and reliance on the scanner control panel readings from your ship’s sensor suite are strongly recommended to locate these organisms.
During the survey of the system a Sanchez-Class Science Vessel Megaship was encountered. See the log entry for this megaship further details.
During the survey of the system these other features were observed
Note: The date and location of the codex entry shown above may differ from that listed as the expedition objective for this Canonn Challenge system. The Codex records the first per region encounter for each organic structure a commander discovers. Some encounters occurred prior to the creation of the Canonn Challenge event.
